The Northern Territory is the only state or territory in Australia where Motorsport is the most popular sporting activity undertaken in the jurisdiction, with larger attendances and a greater economic impact than all forms of football, horse racing and cricket.

Motorsports NT is the peak body for Territory motorsport, established in 2007 and now having 22 affiliated clubs located in Darwin, Alice Springs, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Nhulunbuy.

Ten of these clubs are based at the Hidden Valley Motorsports complex, which also plays host to major events such as the Darwin Triple Crown Supercars, MXGP, World Solar Challenge, Chariots of Thunder and Nitro up North. And in Alice Springs, the Red Centre Nats and Finke Desert Race complement the activity of local clubs, and bring much needed funds into the community.

All up, in 2025 around 170,000 spectators and 11,000 participants were involved in 230 events across the Territory, with the four major events alone bringing more than $53 million of economic activity.

Motorsports NT has excellent relations with the Northern Territory Government who have demonstrated a commitment to Territory motor sport through a range of facility development activities and event funding across the NT.

We continue to represent affiliated clubs to Government and will continue to actively lobby on behalf of our members but more importantly we are setting the highest standards in Governance.

It has been a board priority since inception to ensure that as peak body we provide the best possible advice and guidance on Risk Management, Good Governance practice, Committee Roles, Policy and planning activities.

Motorsports in the Northern Territory is extremely healthy, and it is our aim to continue to actively promote motorsport, attract new volunteers and officials and retain our existing ones. We will always continue to strive for the best possible outcomes for our affiliated member clubs.
